SUMMARY:Under the supervision of the Director of Marketing & Community Relations, the Graphic Designer is responsible for the design and implementation of Louisville Science Center creative pieces, including collateral, paid advertisements, presentations, signage, etc. on behalf of our exhibits, films, programs, and events. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring attractive, clean, accurate, and functional visual communications pieces, in lockstep with the LSC brand.
•Manage all in-house graphic design functions
•Exercise discretion and judgment on matters affecting the graphic design needs, with authority to make independent decisions related to the design.
•Associate’s degree with an emphasis in graphic design. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
•Web design and HTML experience a plus.
•Minimum 2 years graphic design experience.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
•High levels of creativity, imagination, originality, and the ability to contribute in unique and specialized ways•Ability and knowledge of working with standard and contemporary graphic design technology programs•Ability to plan, develop, and organize programs and work schedules•Ability to act with tact and diplomacy, dealing effectively with public, media, and vendors•Ability to meet agreed upon deadlines and follow directions•Ability to work creatively and collaboratively with limited resources•Ability to work nights and weekends, as necessary. MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT:Computer, printer, photocopy machine, calculator, telephone, fax machine, camera, design programs•Intermediate-to-advanced familiarity with CS5:Dreamweaver, Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.
