2012 Scholarship Application

Once again this year, the Ad Federation of Louisville will be awarding scholarships to students interested in a career in some aspect of advertising, PR, and/or marketing communication. The $2,500 Bud Ballard Scholarship is open to all returning students with a minimum 3.0 GPA while the $2,500 Minority Scholarship program targets US citizens of African-American, Hispanic-American, Native-American, Asian-American or Pacific–Island descent. 2011-2012 Dream Team Application

Each year the Louisville Advertising Federation brings together some of the best minds in advertising, communications, marketing, public relations and strategy to benefit a local philanthropic organization under the alias of the "AdFed Dream Team." This Dream Team, as we like to call it, works with the organization's leadership to create a strategic plan aimed at providing increased and enhanced awareness as well as public engagement. In year's past, clients have received over $80,000 in campaign support developed by the Dream Team

Do you know of an organization looking to increase volunteerism, fundraising efforts, and/or general brand awareness? Do you know of an organization that could use our help?

If so, click here to access this year's application. All applications must be submitted by email, fax or in person by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11. Finalists will be asked to make a casual presentation to the Dream Team some time during the week of January 23, 2012. It is important to note that in order for the Dream Team to effectively manage the project, the recipient will be required to pay a $500 incidentals fee (i.e. meetings, materials, mileage).

The AdFed Dream Team will not consider applicants currently affiliated or working with any Louisville advertising professionals whether agency or freelance.

2011 Louisvillian of the Year

Advertising Federation of Louisville honors Bernard M. Trager with Louisvillian of the Year Award

Award is oldest of its kind in Kentucky

 

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – (May 31, 2011) – The Advertising Federation of Louisville (AdFed) is pleased to announce Bernard M. Trager as the recipient of its 2011 Louisvillian of the Year award. Trager will receive his award at a luncheon in his honor on Friday, July 15 at The Olmsted in Louisville, Ky.

 

First bestowed in 1951, the AdFed’s Louisvillian of the Year award is the oldest of its kind in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. This outstanding achievement is given to publicly recognize an individual’s generous personal contributions to the Louisville community in the areas of civic, educational, or business progress in recent years.

 

A panel of past honorees selects the winner. University of Louisville president James R. Ramsey was recognized as the 2010 Louisvillian of the Year. Previous honorees include: Alice K. Houston, Mary Bingham, Stan Curtis, Muhammad Ali, Tom Jurich, Ulysses Bridgeman, Jr. and Mary H. Griffith.

 

Louisville native Bernard M. Trager is chairman and founder of Republic Bancorp, Inc., the parent company of Republic Bank & Trust Company and Republic Bank, which has 43 banking centers in Kentucky, Indiana, Florida and Ohio. Republic Bancorp, Inc. has $3.4 billion in assets and $1 billion in trust assets under custody and management.

 

Trager is an adopted alumnus of the University of Louisville, as well as a member and former chairman of the University of Louisville Board of Overseers. He is a former director of the following organizations: Fund for the Arts, the Cathedral Heritage Foundation, Greater Louisville Inc./The Metro Chamber of Commerce, Boy Scouts of America, Louisville Community Foundation, Louisville/Jefferson County Redevelopment Authority, and Health Enterprises Network.

 

No stranger to local accolades, Trager was named Professional Entrepreneur of the Year by Louisville’s Entrepreneur Society, is an honorary member of the Golden Key National Honor Society and was inducted into the Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame. He is also a recipient of the Grover Sales Distinguished Alumni Award from Louisville Male High School and is a member of the Louisville Male High School Hall of Fame.

 

In 1999 Trager and Jean, his wife of 56 years, received the National Conference of Community and Justice (NCCJ) Weisberg Brotherhood Award. In 2003 they were named Caritas Foundation Community Leaders of the Year and in 2004 they were honored with the University of Louisville Hickman-Camp Award, recognizing their support of the athletic department. Most recently, Mr. and Mrs. Trager received the 2006 Blanche B. Ottenheimer Award from the Jewish Community Center for their outstanding service to the community of Louisville.

The Advertising Federation of Louisville is currently accepting applications for the scholarships listed below. Scholarship awards are $2,500 and applications must be postmarked by Friday, April 8, 2011, in order to be considered. Please click here for an application.

 

Bud Ballard Scholarship Award

This $2500 scholarship is available to students: eligible to enter their Junior or Senior level enrollment in a full-time degree program; with a current GPA of 3.0 or higher (transcript required); who reside in the state of Kentucky or Clark, Floyd, or Harrison counties of Indiana; and who are pursuing a college major relating to advertising or marketing communications, including communications, mass communications, journalism, advertising, public relations, marketing, business communications, graphic arts, computer design, multi-media, and English.  To compete, students must send the following:  a completed application form; a resume showing interest, activities, and pertinent experience; a letter of nomination/recommendation from a faculty member; a certified copy of the student's academic transcript; and a typed-essay (500-word maximum) that indicates why they are interested in a career in advertising, their career goals and aspirations, how they believe they can contribute to the industry, and how the scholarship will help them achieve their goals.

 

Diversity Scholarship

This $2500 scholarship is available to students: who are a U.S. citizen of African, Hispanic, Native-American, Asian or Pacific-Island descent; eligible to enter their Junior or Senior level enrollment in a full-time degree program; with a current GPA of 3.0 or higher (transcript required); who reside in the state of Kentucky or Clark, Floyd, or Harrison counties of Indiana; and who are pursuing a college major relating to advertising or marketing communications, including communications, mass communications, journalism, advertising, public relations, marketing, business communications, graphic arts, computer design, multi-media, and English.  To compete, students must send the following:  a completed application form; a resume showing interest, activities, and pertinent experience; a letter of nomination/recommendation from a faculty member; a certified copy of the student's academic transcript; and a typed-essay (500-word maximum) that tells a little about themselves, and reveal their understanding of and need for a more diverse and inclusive workforce for the benefit of the community and the Louisville advertising and communications industry.

Call for Presenations!

 

2011 Professional Development Series - Call for Presentations!
We know you think you're an expert! Now here's your chance to prove it to the AdFed membership.

The AdFed Programs Committee is issuing a Call for Presentations to develop its 2011 Professional Development Series, which begins in January. Last year's topics ranged from social media 101 to media buying to client service, but we know there are all kinds of new and exciting topics out there that we aren't even thinking about. This is your chance to share your know-how with and elevate your peers in the advertising industry.
Interested? Here's how it works:
  1. Complete and return the call for presentations form by Friday, October 8.
  2. A member of the AdFed staff or a volunteer from the Programs Committee will contact you if any clarification is needed.
  3. The Programs Committee will review all proposals and select the presentations for the 2011 Series by mid-November.
  4. Preference will be given to members of the AdFed, but please share this presentation request with anyone you believe has expertise that will be of value to the membership.
  5. Marketing for the 2011 Professional Development Series begins in December 2010.
These sessions run for one hour, from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m.
There are seven in a series, beginning in January 2011 and running through July 2011.
All programs take place at the AdFed Office, 200 Distillery Commons, Suite 100.
